Bahati

Before I came to Neema Crafts I was happy. Now, I am really happy! I don't know why I love my work so much, I just do. It is great to come into the cafe everyday and work with my many friends. There is nothing else that I can see myself doing.

I became deaf at the age of seven but it took my father six years to find me a school to go to. I finished in 2003 and heard I had failed my exams. Soon after I was contacted by the school about a possible job opportunity in Iringa. So I went with my friend to start work at Neema Crafts. At the beginning I was taught how to make jewellery and paper, but now I work in the cafe, which I really enjoy. I also have 2 daughters with my husband who I met at Neema. I want to continue to provide them with different things, clothes and food. They live with their grandmother and go to school while I work, but I love seeing them every weekend. When they were small I worked from home while looking after them, but I knew I wanted to do something different when I came back to the workshop. Now I have learnt to make cakes, curries, bread and many other things. Life is very good and I love what I do.
